We don’t do politics, why did they burn our wife and daughter?

"With two children, Nadira Akhtar Popi (35) went to her village home in Netrokona on December 3. Nadira's brother Habibur Rahman (20) went with them. After spending the holiday, they boarded the Mohanganj Express last night to return to Dhaka. But who knew, this would be their last journey. On Tuesday (December 19) morning, after five o'clock, miscreants set fire to the Mohanganj Express at Tejgaon station in the capital. In that fire, Nadira Akhtar Popi and her three-year-old son Yasin were burned to death. Two more people were killed in the incident. The identities of the two men have not been identified yet.

Nadira Akhtar Popi was burned to ashes holding her three-year-old child in her lap. Seeing such a corpse of his wife and child at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Popi's husband Mizanur Rahman was fainting repeatedly. Wiping his eyes, he said, 'Who knew my wife and children would burn to death like this. We don't do politics, we don't look for politics. But why were my wife and children burned to death? Who will answer this? Who will I seek justice from?' He said, 'My wife is burned but still holding the child in her lap. She has turned into coal, I can't recognize her. But I can see that she is holding her three-year-old child with both hands.' Mizanur Rahman told Jago News, 'Last night, after boarding the train, I talked to my wife for the last time. The conversation was that they would get off at Kamalapur station. In the morning I heard that the train caught fire. Then I came to the hospital and saw that my wife and children were kept in a white bag. Even after being burned to death, she is holding the child in her lap.'

Habibur Rahman, the brother of the deceased Popi, survived from that train. Describing the incident, Habibur told Jago News, 'We were returning to Dhaka from Netrokona with nine members of the same family. We boarded the train on Monday night. Five of us got off at the airport station. The train left the airport for Kamalapur. We were in the same coach. Suddenly I woke up and saw that the train's coach was filled with smoke. Fire fire started screaming everywhere. As soon as the train stopped at Tejgaon station, everyone rushed down. At that time, I also got down with my elder nephew Fahim. But my sister Nadira Akhtar Popi and her three-year-old son Yasin could not get out. When my sister's body was recovered, she still had my nephew in her lap. They both died together in the fire. It was a tragic scene.'

This reporter spoke to Popi's brother-in-law Delowar Hossain Titu in a rage. He complained, 'If everyone in the family had got off at the airport station like the other five members, the child and the sister-in-law would have survived.' The police of Tejgaon division and the railway police believe that the miscreants set fire to the train in disguise of passengers. The arsonists may have got off at the airport station after setting fire. The CCTV footage of that area is being collected. Along with that, the information of all the passengers of that train is being collected. According to the information of the Ministry of Railways, a total of five incidents of violence have taken place on the train in the last 51 days. It started on November 16. In Tangail, miscreants set fire to a commuter train while it was standing. In that, two coaches of that train were burned. Another coach was damaged. The second incident of violence took place on November 19. In Jamalpur's Sarishabari, a fire was set on the Yamuna Express while it was standing. In that incident, two coaches were burned. Then on November 22, a fire was set on the Upaban Express train while it was standing in Sylhet. Another coach was damaged in that fire. On December 13, a 20-foot rail track was cut off in the Rajendrapur area of Gazipur. In that, seven coaches of the Mohanganj Express were derailed. One person was killed and several others were injured in the incident. In that incident, a locomotive and six coaches were extensively damaged. But the train was moving slowly, so the damage was relatively less.

The last incident of destruction took place this morning on Tuesday. Miscreants set fire to a moving train at Tejgaon station in the capital. Four people, including a child, were killed in that. In addition, three coaches of the train were completely burned. Passengers on the train were attacked by miscreants

The Rail Minister Nurul Islam Sujan claimed that the miscreants and terrorists are trying to destabilize the safe rail travel by carrying out acts of sabotage and terrorism. He said, 'Since October 28, the BNP and their like-minded parties have been giving political programs, and violence on the rail is increasing at this time. The rail is being threatened by terrorist acts. This is not acceptable.'"
