Imran Khan’s nomination papers rejected.

 Imran Khan’s nomination papers rejected.

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been disqualified from running in two constituencies in the upcoming elections in Pakistan. He wanted to contest from Lahore, the capital of Punjab, and his hometown Mianwali. On Saturday (30 December), the regional election commission officials confirmed his disqualification.

Geo News reported that the national elections in Pakistan are scheduled to be held on 8 February 2024. He had submitted his nomination papers from NA-112 and NA-89 constituencies in Lahore and Mianwali respectively. But both of his nomination papers have been rejected. PTI is already embroiled in legal cases. The former chairman of the party Imran Khan, vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and most of the senior leaders are currently in jail. The disqualification of the party leader is a big blow for PTI, it is believed. Why were the nomination papers rejected? The returning officer appointed for the NA-122 constituency said that the PTI founder was convicted by the court. That is why his nomination paper was rejected.

Earlier, PML-N leader Mian Nasir had filed an objection to Imran’s nomination paper. He had mentioned that the PTI founder was disqualified from contesting elections for five years due to his conviction in the Toshakhana case. For the same reason, the election authorities have also rejected Imran Khan’s nomination paper from NA-89 constituency in Mianwali. This constituency is known as Imran Khan’s stronghold. He had won from Mianwali in the previous elections.

Not only Imran Khan, but Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s nomination papers have also been rejected. He wanted to contest from NA-150, PP-218 and NA-214 constituencies in Multan and Tharparkar. But his nomination papers have been rejected from all three constituencies. Besides, former federal minister and PTI leader Hammad Azhar’s nomination paper has been rejected from PP-172 constituency.
