Palestinian poet Refat Alareer was killed in an Israeli attack. He was a young poet of that generation. He wrote about the Palestinians in English and informed the world.

A friend of poet Refat said he was killed in an Israeli attack that lasted all night on Thursday. Another friend of Refat, Gaza poet Mosab Abu Toha, wrote in a social media post on Facebook, 'My heart is broken, my friend and colleague Refat Alareer and his family were killed a few moments ago.'

In that post, Mosab Abu Toha also wrote, 'I don't want to believe this. We loved to pick strawberries together.' Hamas said Israel attacked the northern part of Gaza yesterday evening.

Last October, Israel launched a ground campaign in Gaza. A few days later, Alareer announced that he would not leave the northern part of Gaza. That area was the center of the attack at that time.

Writers from Gaza were involved here. Experienced writers and consultants from abroad encouraged Gaza writers to write their experiences in English. From here, the book 'Gaza Writers Back' was edited. The book 'Gaza Unsilenced' has been published. It features the lives of young Palestinian writers in Gaza. Last month, poet Alareer published a poem titled 'If I Must Die' on Xe. It was shared thousands of times on X . The last part of the poem was like this: 'If I must die, let there be hope, let there be stories.'
